Former Electric Light Orchestra member Mike Edwards has passed away as the result of a motor vehicle accident. The CBC reports that, on Friday (September 3), the 62-year-old cellist was driving in England when a hay bale weighing 600 kilograms rolled onto the highway and crushed his van. At this point, he swerved into another vehicle and was killed instantly.

Edwards joined ELO in 1972, performing on the albums ELO II, On the Third Day, The Night The Light Went On (In Long Beach) and Eldorado. He left the band in 1975.

It was then that he converted to Buddhism and legally changed his name to Deva Pramada. He continued to write, perform and record music in various configurations, including recent operas in London.
