With her breakout role in Bo Burnham's fantastic Eighth Grade, Elsie Fisher demonstrated an incredible amount of bravery and versatility as an actor. As such, she's the perfect person to star in a movie about legendary, so-bad-they're-great rock group the Shaggs.

Fisher will star as one of the band's titular sisters, who recorded the famously terrible album Philosophy of the World in 1968.

The film, which is currently just called The Shaggs, will be directed by Ken Kwapis, who previously helmed The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and He's Just Not That Into You.

The film is based on Joy Gregory's screenplay, which is itself inspired by a 1999 New Yorker article about the band. Gregory previously adapted the article into a musical, which ran off-Broadway.
