Ever-prolific Canadian beatmater Jonny Dylan Hughes is back with a new release from yet another moniker. The Edmonton artist behind BRANCHES and JDH is now going by DJ SLOWSTART, and he's just shared a five-track EP titled OK.
OK finds Hughes going in a house direction, with every song in the same tempo and anchored by a thumping kick. Inspirations include Four Tet, DJ Counselling and DJ Boring, with "H.H. Intl" placing mellow synth tones atop its urgent dance pulse, "Deb N' Deb" exploding with chopped up vocal samples, and the cheekily titled "S/O to the Entire World! JK Aha" riding a wave of xylophone-like plonks.
OK will get a full digital release in about a month's time, but for now it's a Bandcamp exclusive. Take a listen below.
