The D'Urbervilles Change Name to Matters, Announce New Single and Debut Music Video

Last week, it appeared that Toronto's the D'Urbervilles had called it quits. The band, who are fronted by Diamond Rings mastermind John O'Regan, posted a cryptic message on their official website simply saying, "THE D'URBS ARE DEAD." This seemingly straightforward announcement was made confusing by a mysterious countdown clock, leading us to suspect that the band might not be breaking up after all. Thankfully, we were correct, as the D'Urbervilles have not announced their end but a new beginning as Matters.

According to a press release, Matters -- made up of frontman O'Regan, multi-instrumentalist Tim Bruton, bassist Kyle Donnelly, and drummer Greg Santilly -- have been "holed up in their West Toronto jam space (which they share with perennial hardcore favourites Fucked Up) crafting a new sound and a new look to match."

So what is this new sound? Apparently, Matters bring together "punishing guitar riffs and sleek synth leads with an airtight rhythm section and O'Regan's signature baritone."

Matters plan to roll out their debut seven-inch on April 5 via O'Regan's own Hype Lighter imprint. The release has two songs: "Get In or Get Out" and "Wild Steps." Both can be heard over at MySpace and already Matters have premiered a new music video for "Get In or Get Out," which you can watch below.

The band also have a full-length planned for the fall. On top of that, Matters will hit the road in early April with PS I Love You. The dates are below.

Tour dates:

4/6 Ottawa, ON - Maverick
4/7 Toronto, ON - The Garrison
4/8 Montreal, QC - Casa Del Popolo
