Dream Country

"Hope Slide"

Saskatoon songwriter Jordan Kurtz spent years fronting the rootsy band Fisticuffs, but they've now changed their name ahead of their new album. Their first record as Dream Country will be out in 2015, but the song "Hope Slide" can be streamed now.

Dream Country's name is right on point, since "Hope Slide" showcases an atmospherically twangy sound in which pillowy ambient textures swell into a wistful folk rock tune.

"It was just time for a change," Kurtz said in a statement. "A new record, a new lineup, and really a new sound. It's exciting and daunting all at the same time to start from square one with a new name, but it sums up where we've been and where we're going. A chance to take what we've learned and really go all in."

The upcoming album has already been recorded in Vancouver with JP Maurice and in nearby Maple Ridge with Jonathan Anderson (Aidan Knight, Jordan Klassen, We Are the City).

For now, listen to "Hope Slide" below.
