DNF

Hurt

BY Bradley Zorgdrager Published Apr 30, 2012

Sometimes a collective can be the sum of its parts. While other times, it is simply some of its parts. DNF (a band featuring members of Trash Talk and Touché Amoré) fall firmly into the latter category, as the influences from Touché Amoré are non-existent on the aural assault of Hurt. And hurt it does ― after all, the genre is called power violence. The music contained on the EP hits hard and fast ― the eight songs are over in less than 13-and-a-half minutes ― such are the trademarks of the genre. However, sludge and grind influences fly in from left field, adding dynamics to Trash Talk's comparatively one-dimensional take on power violence. Standout songs are hard to pinpoint when an album refuses to sit on its laurels ― one could pick any track and be treated to DNF's onslaught. Although the numbers occasionally blur together, which could be expected when they travel at such velocity, the end result is still the same: devastating.
