DJ Rhettmatic Exclusive Collection

DJ Rhettmatic was recruited by Manhattan Records to mix this collection of their Japan-only twelve-inch releases along with exclusive songs recorded specifically for this double-CD compilation. The disc mixed by Rhettmatic is the one that will likely get the most play. The few boring tracks pass quickly as Rhettmatic keeps the party moving, running through the compilation’s 15 songs with time out for beat juggling, cutting and props from a variety of artists. Although Sadat X should be embarrassed with his appearance on "It’s Our World,” it’s good to hear him team up with Talib Kweli for the spacey g-funk of "Communicate.” JayDee updates N.W.A. with the manic, flute-looped "Fuck the Police,” and the Visionaries (Rhettmatic is a founding member) are the best on the compilation with "Hindsight,” the most rocking reworking of Queen’s "Flash Gordon” theme since Public Enemy’s "Terminator X to the Edge of Panic.” Further appearances by Beatnuts, Tony Touch, Kool G Rap, Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, DJ Spinna, Pete Rock and Grap Luva, and Rhettmatic’s Beat Junkies crew, guarantees Exclusive Collection will rock. The second disc is a straight compilation of the 15 tracks for those who would like to hear the songs in their entirety without alterations. It’s good for adding your favourites to your own personal mix-tape, but you’ll mostly listen to Rhettmatic get busy. (Up Above)
