A publicist for French producer DJ Mehdi has confirmed that the musician died. He was 34 years old. Not much has been disclosed about the cause of death at present, but the Ed Banger artist allegedly passed away in an "accident" on September 13.

UPDATE: According to Undercover, Mehdi was killed in a freak accident at his Paris home when a roof collapsed during a party, killing Medhi and injuring three others.

News of the death apparently came from a tweet from French hip-hopper DJ Cut Killer, who wrote "Dj Mehdi !!! il n'y a pas de mots pour vous dire la peine que je ressens .... un ami s en vas ....repose en paix fréro. »

Not soon after, Twitter became a buzz with tributes to the fallen French touch artist, born Mehdi Favéris-Essadi.

Chromeo, for whom Mehdi had done remix work, wrote "We lost our brother. No Words." Similar outpourings have come from DJ A-Trak ("I have no words. My heart is completely shattered. Not this.") and Drake ("Damn...RIP MEHDI").

Swedish pop group Miike Snow, who had their tune "Burial" remixed by the DJ, posted a solemn, "In remembrance of a dear soul DJ Mehdi. Will be sorely missed!!!! :( :( :(. Our sincerest condolences to Fabianne and the rest of Mehdi's family."

DJ Mehdi first came to light in the late '90s as the DJ for Different Teep. He soon branched off on his own, working himself in with the Ed Banger crowd. His last solo full-length was 2007's Lucky Boy at Night. Known for mixing elements of electro, disco and house with indie rock, some of his varied remix work included was done for Architecture in Helsinki and Cassius.

DJ Mehdi is survived by his wife, French graffiti artist Fafi.
