Digable Planets Reportedly Reuniting in 2012 for Album and Tour

With his project Shabazz Palaces, Ishmael "Butterfly" Butler released our favourite hip-hop album this year that wasn't made by Kanye West. In 2012, however, he will be turning his attention to a different musical outlet, as he is reportedly planning to reform with his former group Digable Planets.

Details are still scarce, but according to both AllHipHop and HipHop DX, the trio of Butler, Doodlebug (aka Cee Knowledge) and Ladybug (aka Lady Mecca) will be reconvening next year for a tour and a new album.

UPDATE: Ladybug Mecca has since denied that a Digable Planets reunion is taking place, stating that online reports of a reunion are inaccurate.

This isn't the first time that Digable Planets have reunited, as they joined up for a tour back in 2005. At the time, we noted that the 21st century incarnation of Digable Planets lacked "their original intensity and edginess." If they put out an album, it will be their first official LP since 1994's Blowout Comb.

So far, the group haven't issued a formal statement about the alleged reunion, so you might want to wait for official word before you start saving up for tickets. Hopefully we'll get to see some dates before long.
