Dent May Reveals North American Dates in Support of 'Do Things'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Apr 19, 2012

Indie-fringe artist Dent May recently revealed that his upcoming LP Do Things scraps the ukulele bent of his debut disc The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele in favour of sultry synths, and the Mississippi-bred musician will flex his new skills on an upcoming tour.

May releases his next album on June 12 through Paw Tracks, and come July, he'll be out on the road supporting Quintron & Miss Pussycat. While May won't appear on the group's previously reported April and May dates, the acts team up throughout June and July, stopping in Vancouver on July 5.

As for Do Things, a press release explains that it replaces the ukulele with "cosmic synths, funky guitars, analog drum machines, loopy bass lines, and massive vocal harmonies." May performed all the instruments himself, and recorded the album at his home studio the Dude Ranch and in a friend's rural cabin by a cotton field near Oxford, MS.

You can stream album track "Best Friend" down below to get a sample of May's current direction, which takes a shine to schmaltzy disco and lo-fi funk.

May also recently revealed a new mixtape called Escape from Groove Mountain, which tips its hat to Mississippi soul and R&B acts like the Jackson Southernaires and Fern Kinney.

"Shout-out to the classic Malaco Records, whose facilities in Jackson, MS were completely destroyed in a tornado last year, so check out their deep catalogue and support them," May said in a statement of his mix, which you can grab at the bottom of the page.
