Deftones finally announced their new album Ohms the other week, and now we're learning about a special guest appearance — seagulls. Yes, the winged tyrants of the sea.
The band's Chino Moreno and Abe Cunningham made the reveal about the seagull cameo in an interview with Kerrang!, explaining they roped in some extra muscle — or, um, feathers — for the album track "Pompeji."
As Moreno explained, "It's funny, because I've always wanted to put them in a song. They're sort of spooky. Don Henley's 'Boys of Summer' has this one little section where you hear seagulls and it always made me feel creepy.
"I like it because it changes the setting of the song. It takes you somewhere."
Cunningham added: "We've had crickets before. There are always teeny hidden beasts and insects stashed away."
So far, Deftones have yet to share "Pompeji," but you can hear the album's title track below.
As previously reported, Ohms will arrive on September 25 through Reprise.
