Death Cab for Cutie Hit the Studio to Work on New Album

BY Matthew RitchiePublished Oct 10, 2013

Aging millennial rockers Death Cab for Cutie have been spending the majority of 2013 looking towards the past, what with their upcoming deluxe 10th anniversary reissue of the Seth Cohen-supported Transatlanticism LP, as well as this past January's career-defining The Barsuk Years box set. But if the band's Instagram account is any indication, it appears the group have reconvened in studio to begin work on an official follow-up to 2011's Codes and Keys.

In a photo posted on the band's Instagram today (October 10) with the caption "Paintbrushes. #inthestudio #deathcab," a row of guitars can be seen, presumably in band member/longtime producer Chris Walla's personal studio.

Although details are somewhat murky, Billboard reports that "a source confirms…that Ben Gibbard and co. are indeed plowing ahead with a new studio album."

Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
