Joining storied songwriters including Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie's estate has sold the late artist's publishing catalogue for a nice chunk of change.
Variety reports that after months of negotiations, Bowie's estate has sold the publishing catalogue to Warner Chappell Music for "upwards of $250 million."
The deal includes songs from the 26 studio albums Bowie released in his lifetime, lost album Toy that will receive a standalone release Friday (January 7), a pair of albums with group Tin Machine, and further musical contributions to film soundtracks and more.
Bowie's estate previously announced a global partnership with Warner Music in September of 2021, which called for the artist's catalogue from 1968 through 2016 to be brought under the company's umbrella, including albums originally released via Sony Music from 2000 through 2016.
News of the publishing catalogue sale arrives ahead of what would have been Bowie's 75th birthday (January 8) this week. The estate has teased "Bowie 75" celebrations to mark the occasion.
Bowie passed away in January 2016, days after celebrating his 69th birthday and releasing 25th studio LP Blackstar.
Last year, the influence of Black music and culture on Bowie's catalogue was explored on a covers album.
