David Bowie Turned Down a Coldplay Collaboration Because It Was "Not a Very Good Song"

The late, great David Bowie was no stranger to collaboration in his many decades as an artist, but he was also known for his impeccable taste. And it was that good taste that saw him turn down a collaboration with radio rock softies Coldplay.

In a new interview with NME, Coldplay's Will Champion explains that they took a loss when they reached out to David Bowie for a collaboration. The band had written a song with Bowie in mind and were hoping to get him in on a vocal track.

Chris Martin wrote a letter to Bowie, requesting his participation, and Bowie responded with a pointed letdown. He wrote, "It's not a very good song, is it?"

"He was very discerning," Champion said in the interview. "He wouldn't just put his name to anything. I'll give him credit for that."
