Dave Mustaine Confirms Title of New Megadeth Album, Shares Song Snippet in Cameo Video

"This is the beginning of the song 'The Sick, the Dying and the Dead,' which is our title track"

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine has given an exclusive sneak-peak at the band's new material to a fan via celebrity video messaging platform Cameo — except this is the internet, so now we're all privy. In a birthday greeting to someone named Joe, Mustaine appears candidly in his natural habitat: hard at work on a "rough mix" of Megadeth's 16th studio album, which is apparently titled The Sick, the Dying and the Dead.

"If you listen real closely, you can hear in the background — look over my shoulder, uh oh! — there's the Pro Tools rig with the new album, doing a rough mix. And you're getting to hear a little bit of it in the background for your birthday," Mustaine says in the clip. "This is the beginning of the song The Sick, the Dying and the Dead, which is our title track."

With its extremely on-the-nose title for the pandemic era, The Sick, the Dying and the Dead will follow Megadeth's 2016 album Dystopia — which is perhaps just as aptly named. This comes after the news that former-member David Ellefson's bass tracks will not appear on the new record. The band parted ways with Ellefson back in May after allegations of sexual misconduct were lodged against the bassist.

In the video message, Mustaine also shares plans to begin tour pre-production in "the next couple of weeks," including rehearsing "somewhere here in Nashville."

Megadeth and Lamb of God hit the road with Trivium and Hatebreed (who replaced In Flames) starting in August for "The Metal Tour of the Year," which wraps up with a handful of Canadian stops in late-September, early-October.
