Dave Grohl's 'Sound City' Documentary Gets Limited Theatrical Release

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jan 13, 2013

We've been optimistically awaiting the arrival of Dave Grohl's Sound City documentary for some time now. With the film set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival later this month before hitting digital retailers for home viewing on February 1, it seemed like all the details were in place. Now, however, we're happy to report an extremely limited theatrical run.

Grohl's film about the legendary Los Angeles studio will hit select theatres across North America on January 31. Most of the cinemas are in the United States, but there are Canadian showings set for Toronto's TIFF Bell Lightbox, Vancouver's VanCity Theatre and Montreal's Cinema du Parc.

Though billed as a "one night only" event, the Toronto screening will repeat on February 1.

As previously reported, the soundtrack for Sound City (which features Paul McCartney's bizarre Nirvana experiment) will be available on March 13.
