Unfortunately, the supposed news that French dance music icons Daft Punk were working with giallo film master Dario Argento on his next project has proven to be a bust, as Argento's producers have clarified the situation.

It started earlier this week, when Argento spoke with Repubblica [via The Film Stage], where he suggested that the duo were scoring his next film Occhiali Neri (or, in English, Black Glasses).

"They are my admirers, they know all my cinema," Argento was translate as saying. "They heard from French friends that I was shooting a new film and called me [to say], 'We want to work with you.'"

It's an exciting prospect, to be sure, but it was too good to be true. Argento's producers Conchita Airoldi and Brahim Chioua have since clarified the situation in a new statement.

"Urania Pictures and Getaway Films, producers of Dario Argento's Dark Glasses, wish to react to the rumours currently circulating, following an interview in La Repubblica in which Argento stated that Daft Punk were to compose the soundtrack of his new movie," Airoldi and Chioua said. "This statement reflects Argento's desire to work with Daft Punk; however, there has been no agreement nor discussions between both parties. The movie is currently in pre-production, and Dario's wish is not on today's agenda."

So there's no Daft Punk/Argento collaboration after all — but Argento would still like there to be.

But the film, which should go into production later this year if everyone's allowed to go back to work, will star Dario's daughter, Asia Argento
