CPC Gangbangs

Mutilation Nation

BY Josiah HughesPublished Oct 29, 2007

A Montreal four-piece featuring Paul Spence (aka Deaner from Fubar), CPC Gangbangs have slowly built a name for themselves with explosive performances at Pop Montreal and SXSW and a slew of seven-inches on Die Slaughterhouse and P. Trash. Mutilation Nation, their first proper full-length, is a moody extension of their sound, delving into dark psychedelic territory on top of the boozy garage they made a name on. Opener "Jeff Starship” builds treacherously atop oscillating synth sounds, while tracks like "Teenage Crimewave” and "Mechanical Man” are aggressive and fast. Elsewhere, "What Love Is” and "Coke Blues” name-check MC5 with a jumble of busy riffs and good-time vocals. By showcasing many ideas without deviating from a logical framework, Mutilation Nation is a fitting introduction to the fury of CPC Gangbangs.
