Conor Oberst To Release Another Album For Merge With the the Mystic Valley Band

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Feb 19, 2009

Conor Oberst is once again setting aside his Bright Eyes banner to release another LP with his new crew, the Mystic Valley Band. Dubbed Outer South, this follow-up to the man/boy's 2008 self-titled effort will head our way May 5 via Merge and boast 16 new tracks of Gram Parsons-styled folkiness.

The album was recorded at Sonic Ranch Studios in Tornillio, TX last year and features the same line-up that played on Oberst's last non-Bright Eyes outing. It's also apparently a more band effort this time 'round, with Mystic Valley Band members Jason Boesel, Nik Freitas and Taylor Hollingsworth on songwriting detail with Oberst.

There's no tracklisting yet but the band have lined up some tour dates, which, if we're lucky, just might feature Oberst and his boys sporting their new matching windbreakers.

Here are the dates for Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band:

4/9 Omaha, NE - The Slowdown
4/10 Denver, CO - Ogden Theater
4/11 Aspen, CO - Belly Up
4/12 El Paso, TX - Barnett Harley Davidson
4/13 Albuquerque, NM - The Sunshine Theater
4/14 Tempe, AZ - The Marquee
4/15 Pomona, CA - The Glasshouse
