Ontario has announced that it will continue the reopening of the live music industry, as bars will be permitted to return to full capacity as of midnight on the morning of October 25, with nightclubs to follow on November 15.
In an announcement on Friday afternoon, Premier Doug Ford, Minister of Health Christine Elliott and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kieran Moore detailed plans to lift capacity limits for indoor settings where proof of vaccination is required on October 25. This includes restaurants, gyms, casinos and bars.
On November 15, further reopening will include "higher-risk settings where proof of vaccination is required, including food or drink establishments with dance facilities." This includes nightclubs.
Ford's government also detailed plans for further reopening in the future. The province intends to begin lifting vaccine mandates on January 17; mask mandates are scheduled to lift on March 28, 2022.
The province plans to lift all public health measures and workplace safety measures by March 2022 — although Ford acknowledged that he would remain "super cautious" and revise those plans as necessary.
In implementing future lockdown measures, Moore said that any restrictions would be local. Province-wide restrictions will only be implemented "exceptional circumstances."
Earlier this month, the province announced that concert venues would be allowed to operate at full capacity, although this didn't extend to smaller venues with standing room only.
