Concealer Sign to Rae Spoon's Coax Records for Debut LP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jul 14, 2015

Canadian songwriter Rae Spoon has slowly been building the Coax Records imprint, and it just got a little bit bigger. Edmonton duo Concealer have signed to Coax for their debut album Fêted:Fetid, which will be out on September 4.

Concealer is fronted by Mark Davis, who has previously worked as a solo artist and has been in the band Old Reliable. He sings and plays treated bass, while collaborator missmannered handles electronics. Fêted:Fetid was produced by Lorrie Matheson at Calgary's Arch Audio studio.

According to the group's press materials, "Sleazy rock'n'roll and proto-punk collide with emotionally naked post-folk" to form a sound that they describe as "heavy wave."

Rae Spoon said in a statement, "I remember the first time I saw Concealer play live. I was blown away by the combination of roots and electronic music that elevated instead of clashed with each other. They are a band that displays the kind of musical innovation that I admire so much. When I decided to set up a record label and release albums from other artists they were at the top of my list for bands to work with."
