Comeback Kid Shed Light on Their "Most Ripping and Furious Record to Date"

BY Travis PersaudPublished Aug 23, 2010

With the release of the upcoming Symptoms + Cures coming up fast, Winnipeg hardcore quintet Comeback Kid are chomping at the bit to share their new material. "It's definitely our most ripping and furious record to date," lead singer Andrew Neufeld tells Exclaim! in an interview. "We really just want to start playing these songs live."

Following a recent signing to Distort in Canada, Symptoms + Cures has been slated for an August 31 release date, with a Canadian tour following shortly thereafter. To date, the band's set list has been dominated with songs from their second record Wake the Dead. But while writing Symptoms + Cures, they intentionally crafted it to translate well in a live setting on a nightly basis.

"We wrote the songs with red plastic cups in mind - beer spilling over, fists in the air," Neufeld says. "The album is brighter and there was intent to that, [but] we're singing about serious things that mean a lot to us."

The title track speaks to people's need for stimulation and trying to find the right answers instantly. "It's about jumping headfirst into situations hoping it will fix what they're going through," Neufeld explains. "The cover of the album [see above] is a guy jumping into the unknown. That's how we feel sometimes - we're leaping and hoping for the best."

With the upcoming Canadian tour - alongside openers Devil In Me, Living With Lions, A Wilhelm Scream and Madball - Comeback Kid are hoping fans will be just as excited about the lineup as they are.

"It's a pretty big huge deal for a band like Madball to come across and do club shows," he says. "In my opinion they're the best hardcore band ever. It's totally weird [having them open for us]… But it's our home country so that's kind of cool. We're super stoked about it."

All Comeback Kid's upcoming Canadian dates are below, and stay tuned for Exclaim!'s full-album stream of Symptoms + Cures, which will be available here on Tuesday (August 24).
