While New York prog players Coheed and Cambria have previously tied together their LPs with a narrative surrounding the "Armory Wars," the concept behind their next album is that it in fact doesn't have one. The band's first non-conceptual full-length is called The Color Before the Sun, and it lands October 9 through 300 Entertainment.
The new album was recorded with producer Jay Joyce (Cage the Elephant) at Nashville's St. Charles Studio. It's the band's first full-length release since the one-two punch of 2012's The Afterman: Ascension and 2013's The Afterman: Descension.
While the band had previously mined science fiction territory in their telling of the story of Coheed and Cambria Kilgannon, frontman Claudio Sanchez is apparently "exposing his raw feelings" on the set, explaining that the songs come from a more personal place.
"I kind of want people to know that Coheed can write that sort of record," he said in a statement. "I've always said in the past that there's never been a limitation on the band. It makes no sense to me to draw a line in the sand and never cross it."
Down below, you'll find a lyric video for the record's "You've Got Spirit, Kid," a song which finds Sanchez suggesting we take life as it hits us and "embrace the fall." A full tracklisting has yet to appear for the LP.
