Tributes to the late Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell have been pouring in on social media and on stages around the world since he died back in May, and now a more permanent memorial is in the works. The singer's family have commissioned a statue that will stand in his hometown of Seattle.
The statue will be crafted by sculptor Wayne Toth, who previously built the statue of Johnny Ramone that sits at his graveside in L.A.'s Hollywood Forever Cemetery (where Cornell is also buried).
"He has already given me a design and the children and I love it," Cornell's widow Vicky told the Seattle Times. "He is Seattle's son, and we will be bringing him home and honoring him, I hope, with all of you, your love and support."
She added that the statue will take approximately seven months to build and called on fans to voice their opinions on where the statue should be placed.
Despite the statue project and ongoing work with Cornell's music therapy program at Seattle non-profit Childhaven, Vicky says she is still unable to listen to her late husband's voice — though she has been going through old photos of him with their two children "and keeping Chris alive with our memories."
