Check Out Reviews of Lotus Plaza, Mac DeMarco, La Sera and More in Our New Release Roundup

It's the first Tuesday of April, and we're getting into swing of spring with our weekly roundup of new releases. Here's a breakdown of some of the week's most notable releases, and you can head over to our Recently Reviewed section to read more.

One of the week's most noteworthy new albums comes courtesy of Lotus Plaza, aka Lockett Pundt of Deerhunter. Although Deerhunter have long been considered a vehicle for frontman Bradford Cox, Spooky Action at a Distance shows that Pundt is much more than just a sidekick, with his latest solo effort earning him our Mark of Excellence.

For more new music in the pop rock vein, Portland duo AU released the disappointing Both Lights, while on the other hand, Vivian Girls contributor La Sera earned our Mark of Excellence with her stripped-down Sees the Light. Also, onetime Makeout Videotape leader Mac DeMarco was similarly recognized for his Rock and Roll Night Club release. And then there's We Are Not the Same by Lux, which, ironically, sounds more or less the same as many of the band's indie pop contemporaries.

For those in search of something a little heavier, the Love Below's Demo 2009 is short, but makes up for the brief runtime with quality and velocity. The band's Every Tongue Shall Caress is similarly punishing and satisfying.
