Charge

Universal Tribe

BY Sam SutherlandPublished Jun 1, 2004

The opening title track of this six-song EP is enough to make the whole disc worth purchasing. With a delivery similar to Zack De La Rocha, vocalist Giri spews out hardcore rants over a world-influenced percussive groove featuring conga and djembe, before a full-on guitar assault begins. With the message of a "Universal Tribe” as the track’s central theme, the inclusion of a more global sound brings the song to a whole other level than most "unity” songs. While the rest of the songs on this EP are quite good on their own, none can compare to the power of the opener. Drawing from positive hardcore acts such as Bad Brains, Charge possess a unique sound that could still stand to be honed further; Universal Tribe however, offers proof that the band are well on their way.
