CFCF Announces Long-Awaited Full-Length Debut
Published Sep 09, 2009At long last, Montreal-based electronic whiz Michael Silver has prepared his full-length debut as CFCF. The album, called Continent, follows up his beloved Panesian Nights EP and promises to bring 12 new distinctive, electro-driven jams.
In a press release, Silver described his process for Continent, saying, "For the songs on this album I usually started with an idea in mind of a specific atmosphere I wanted to convey. That atmosphere, whether it was something hazy, nostalgic, otherworldly or unsettling, was always the first thing to come to a track.
"The songs range from mid-tempo nu-disco to balearic, house to ambient. Often the basis of the atmosphere was culled from films by Werner Herzog, Michael Mann, David Lynch, and David Cronenberg as well as countless musical influences including Arthur Russell, Saint Etienne, and Tangerine Dream."
A track from the record called "Monolith" can already be grabbed here, and Continent will be out on October 27 via Paper Bag. It will also be preceded by The Explorers EP, featuring label-mate Sally Shapiro, on October 6.
If you live in Montreal or Toronto, you'll have a few opportunities to catch CFCF live this fall, including shows with the Juan Maclean and Glass Candy.
