Century Thief

"You Are Here"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Nov 9, 2016

Last fall, Toronto indie-folk outfit Century Thief unveiled their debut LP Reverie, and now they're looking ahead to their sophomore record. The first sampling of the band's new material arrives with a single titled "You Are Here," and Exclaim! has your first listen to the track.

It opens with a flourish of horns before settling into a blend of shimmery guitar lines, a steady rhythm section and lead vocals that are backed by angelic harmonies. It was recorded along with the rest of the album at a farmhouse in Madoc, ON, where the group came to see the house "as an instrument and character in the music."

"'You Are Here' is about the struggle to grasp beyond the limitations of our perception, our linear experience of space and time, to find a larger meaning," the band tell Exclaim!

You can hear them grapple with the existential unknowns of life in the player below.
