As previously reported, legendary New York punk club CBGB is being showcased in an eponymous feature-length film this year, and the soundtrack for the movie will feature a number of classic songs from some of the venue's cast of regulars, as well as a few other big-name acts of yore.
Due October 8 on CD and LP via Omnivore Recordings, and digitally via Rhino, the 20-song set features oldies from the Velvet Underground, New York Dolls, the Talking Heads, Blondie, the Dead Boys, Richard Hell & the Voidoids, Television, the Police and more.
While it doesn't feature the Ramones proper, the LP includes Joey Ramone's "I Got Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)." Also included is Blondie's newly re-recorded take on their "Sunday Girl."
The film, set to premiere at New York's CBGB Music & Film Festival in October, stars Alan Rickman as the club's Hilly Kristal and also features Malin Ackerman as Blondie's Debbie Harry, Foo Fighter drummer Taylor Hawkins as Iggy Pop, and Harry Potter star Rupert Grint as Dead Boys guitarist Cheetah Chrome, among others.
