Caribou Returns with 'Suddenly' Album, Drops New Song "You and I"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Dec 4, 2019

Caribou returned with his first new song in five years, "Home," this fall, and now he's announced plans for a new full-length album. Suddenly will arrive on February 28 via Merge. And to give us a better idea what to expect, Caribou has delivered the new song "You and I."

According to a press release, Suddenly is about family and evolving relationships, specifically "the moments of dramatic and unexpected change that occur at points in any life and within any family — universal themes that catch you off guard and change your life in a heartbeat."

Caribou mastermind Dan Snaith whittled the final songs on Suddenly down from more than 900 drafts. See the final tracklisting down below, while the album art is above.

The next track to arrive from the album is "You and I."

"'You and I' was one of the first tracks on the album that I started, and one of the last tracks I finished; it existed in some form or other throughout the whole arc of making the record," Snaith explained in a statement. "It also captures a lot of what the record, and the title of the album, are about — the track changes suddenly and unpredictably, and it is about a change in my life that happened out of the blue."
