Canvas

Canvas

This is pretty rocking, chaotic and screamy metal/hardcore with more hardcore riffs than anything else, but the sum of the parts equals something pretty metal. Brings to mind some of the better "chugga-chugga" hardcore bands of the mid '90s, like Undertow, but then the blast beats, pick slides and indecipherable vocals come in. Cool lyrics with a big bone to pick with religion and a song about not abusing animals get two big thumbs up. Ultimately, Canvas does have a fairly one-dimensional sound so the 35 minutes actually feels pretty long. Nowhere near the emotional or musical intensity of the Dillinger Escape Plan or Cave In, but nonetheless a good CD for fans of heavy hardcore or metal.
