Cannibal Ox Return with New Material in over a Decade

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 5, 2013

Reunited rap unit Cannibal Ox have been fundraising for an album with a projected 2014 release date, but they also promised that a single called "Gotham (Ox City)" would arrive this spring. Sure enough, this comeback single has been pegged for an April 16 release date.

The single comes with two additional tracks: "Gases in Hell (Inhale)" and "Psalm 82." These songs were produced by Bill Cosmiq and mark the first new Cannibal Ox in 13 years.

The best part? All three songs are available to stream now. "Gotham (Ox City)" is a dark, nocturnally atmospheric cut, while "Gases in Hell (Inhale)" is a touch more aggressive and "Psalm 82" is based on tightly wound, cinematic samples. Listen to the songs below.

Cannibal Ox didn't reach their funding goal in the aforementioned Kickstarter campaign, since they fell almost $25,000 short of their $30,000 goal. We're not quite sure where that leaves them in terms of recording the new album, but given that they are releasing the single as planned, it seems that they might be pressing ahead regardless.
