Calgary's MTT Fest Cancels 2013 Edition

The second instalment of Calgary's MTT Fest was already beginning to take shape, as the organizers had confirmed a number of performers, but now these plans have fallen through and the festival has been cancelled.

The event had been scheduled to run from April 11 to 13 in various venues in downtown Calgary, but evidently the founders experienced some organizational hitches. As FFWD Weekly points out, they wrote on Facebook, "We're super bummed to have to announce this, but this years MTT Fest is cancelled. So sad, I know...but key elements kept falling through, to the point where we needed to pull the plug."

They had already begun selling tickets, and refunds will be issued through Eventbrite and Sonicbids.

Evidently, this won't signify the permanent end of MTT Fest. The organizers are planning a concert series during the Calgary Stampede, and they added, "Coachella had to cancel their 2nd year and look at them now."

This year's festival was supposed to feature performances from Martin Rev (from Suicide), Alex Bleeker & the Freaks (from Real Estate), Norman Blake (from Teenage Fanclub), Rosco from Spacemen 3, Malcolm Mooney & The 10th Planet, Rain Parade, the Telescopes, Shout Out Out Out Out, Renny Wilson, LSD and the Search for God, Holly Herndon, Gold, and more.

Guest curators were to include Joe Foster (My Bloody Valentine, the Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream), Nelson Bragg (of Brian Wilson's backing band) and Malcolm Mooney (original vocalist for Can).
