Amid a flurry of disturbing rumours and controversy following the release of Hulu's New York Times Presents documentary Framing Britney Spears — covering Britney Spears' decade-long conservatorship battle involving numerous lawyers, family members and, most notably, her father Jamie Spears — the pop singer's boyfriend Sam Asghari has spoken out in defence of his partner, calling her dad "a total dick."
In a recent Instagram story, Asghari, an Iranian-born personal trainer, broke his silence on the legal battle between Spears and her father, telling TMZ that once Jamie "starts treating his daughter right, then we can be on good terms."
"It's important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way," Asghari wrote on IG. "In my opinion, Jamie is a total dick. I won't be going into details because I've always respected our privacy but at the same time I didn't come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom."
Spears' fight for her freedom is ongoing, after Britney recently lost a bid to remove her father from the conservatorship. As detailed in the Hulu doc, which aired last weekend, Spears will not perform again while her father is in charge of her career, freedom and finances. The doc also alleges that Britney's dad is using Britney's custody of her children as a bargaining chip to keep her silent, while he benefits financially from his control over her life.

"No artist today would have to endure the literal torture that media/society/utter misogynists inflicted upon her. The mental health awareness conversation, culturally, could never be where it is without the awful price she has paid," wrote Williams.
