Brilliant Colors

Introducing

BY Cam LindsayPublished Nov 17, 2009

After reviving the imprint late in 2008, Slumberland Records caps off a stellar year with the release of the debut album by Brilliant Colors. They may have a familiar sound ― the resounding garage punk of the Vivian Girls and, at times, the chirpy post-punk of Love Is All ― but the all-girl trio from San Francisco know full well they need actual songs to make a convincing argument. Introducing has ten of those. Although Brilliant Colors may not come off as novel ― none of these bands do, however, check out Black Tambourine for proof ― but their tight, abbreviated songwriting lodges plenty of spiky hooks into your brain. Clocking in at less than 22 minutes, Introducing is brisk and direct, like a round of speed dating, but one that leads to a lasting relationship instead of a one-night stand.
