After unveiling their debut EP as Big Red Machine through a new digital music platform last month, Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and the National's Aaron Dessner have lifted the curtain on their debut album under the moniker.
The duo's self-titled LP will arrive August 31 through their digital platform PEOPLE, in addition to streaming services, vinyl, CD and cassette through Jagjaguwar. Ten tracks in length, the album features the four previously shared EP tracks ("Forest Green," "Lyla," "Gratitude," and "Hymnostic") that saw release last month.
Big Red Machine was co-produced by Vernon, Dessner and frequent collaborator Brad Cook. The album was recorded and mixed by Jonathan Low at Dessner's Long Pond studio in New York. You can find the album's cover art above.
Dessner spoke about the album's genesis in a press release as follows:
I don't think the record would exist without the community that came together to make it. We took the music to a certain point, and then we reached out and sent it far and wide, inviting friends to contribute any and all ideas. We've viewed the record and the process from a community standpoint. We're incredibly excited about it, as excited as we would be for any album we might make in another situation that's more conventional. But this feels like something new — the process felt different and the outcome felt different.
