Bodymovin

Bodymovin

As more North American and British electronic artists head towards the sleeker horizons of Cologne's Kompakt and Morr Music, it seems that in turn, more Krauts have abandoned fine knob tuning for the DJ culture born out of Chicago and London. Bodymovin, a collaboration between Germany's DJ Friction (of Freundeskries) and DJ Thomilla (of Turntablerocker), run through house music's motions almost clinically: from the four-on-the-floor acid house of "Good Time" to the live drum cycle of "It Wasn't Calf" to the vocoder meltdown of "Everybody" and the Speak & Spell-themed "B.O.D.Y.M.O.V.I.N." Although Bodymovin have yet to gain the crazed personality traits that make house survivors Daft Punk and Basement Jaxx so attractive, their debut does demonstrate that the duo have a good grasp on what a club banger should sound like. The music of Bodymovin may be novel to German micro house diehards but here in North America, it's simply a case of "been there, heard that."
