Blur Drummer To Run For Office

While Damon Albarn is gallivanting with his super group the Good, the Bad and the Queen, and bassist Alex James is manufacturing cheese, drummer Dave Rowntree is flirting with politics. Set to run for a seat on the Westminster Council in a by-election on May 3 as a representative of the Labour Party in the riding of Central London’s Marylebone ward. Currently a Tory-held council, Rowntree’s objective is to change the extreme deprivation in parts of one of England’s richest boroughs. In a YouTube interview, Rowntree said, "I think there are a lot of people quite angry with how the Tories are running Westminster, and I think somebody needs to take a stand, somebody needs to act as a rallying point for the disaffected people, and input their point of view.”
