R&B weirdo Blaqstarr is the M.I.A. collaborator known for his over-the-top sex lyrics and general sense of weirdness. The crooner recently signed with M.I.A.'s N.E.E.T. Recordings, and his debut release The Divine EP has just dropped. To celebrate, Blaqstarr has leaked out a new video for the single "Rider Girl."
Musically, "Rider Girl" toes the line between outsider music and an R&B sex jam, with Blaqstarr's crooning slightly out of tune with the mid-fi '90s backing track. The visuals match the video well, as grainy highways and vintage bedrooms are superimposed with dancing silhouettes and bright clouds. Like M.I.A.'s Internet aesthetic, this video looks and sounds like a late night scroll through Tumblr's darkest corners.
