Black Lips / Icky Blossoms

"Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys" / "Arabian Knights"

As part of Record Store Day (April 20), the Black Lips and Icky Blossoms have teamed-up to present a couple of covers on their Cowboy Knights split 7-inch, but you can preview both tracks now, a couple weeks ahead of the platter's due date.

Up first is the Lips' cover of Willie Nelson & Waylon Jennings' "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys," which plays it pretty traditional, with rustic acoustic strums, pedal steel and western accents slipping onto the well-known arrangement like a well-worn pair of Levi's.

Icky Blossoms, meanwhile, play the eerie new-wave card hard with their adaptation of early Siouxsie and the Banshees single "Arabian Knights." You can stream both songs in the player down below courtesy of Saddle Creek Records.
