Black Crowes have hinted at retirement before; they split in 2002, and then went on a hiatus in 2010. Now, they have once again parted ways, and this time it might be for good.
This is according to drummer Steve Gorman, who told Rolling Stone that the band's shows last year were likely their last ever.
"I've said in the past, 'I know we'll work again' or 'there's no way we'll work again,' and I've been wrong. But right now, the likelihood of us doing anything again is as low as it's ever been," he said. "We could obviously all see things differently in a year, but I'll be surprised if the Black Crowes do something again. Ever."
There doesn't seem to be any animosity in this decision. Rather, the band are focused on solo projects and new endeavours.
"I'm not at all interested in getting in a room and trying to figure out Black Crowes music," Gorman said. "That doesn't do anything for me. I'm just so thrilled that [new band Trigger Hippy] is where it is. And I can't speak for Rich or Chris [Robinson], but I'm fairly confident that's how they are with their things. We've done right by what the Black Crowes were and I think everybody is very happy to be looking forward to different things."
Gorman acknowledged that it would make sense for the band to tour next year, given that 2015 will mark the 20th anniversary of the group's debut album, 1990's Shake Your Money Maker.
Then again, maybe it's not too much of a surprise that the Crowes may be calling it quits, given their lack of recent output. They haven't released a new album since 2009's Before the Frost…Until the Freeze; more recently they've reworked their own material on 2010's Croweology and issued the 2013 live album Wiser for the Time.
