Bis

Plastique Nouveau

BY Cam LindsayPublished Aug 1, 2002

Though they're fitting in nicely with the electro-clash explosion, Scotland's Bis is one of the weaker acts in the scene. On their new mini-album, Plastique Nouveau, the trio showcases five new songs and four remixes by their peers. Unlike acts such as Fischerspooner, Felix Da Housecat and Adult (who provides one of the remixes), Bis lacks the appeal and interest of their contemporaries. This all becomes apparent here; the best songs are the remixes. Songs like "Don't Let The Rain Come Down" and "Make It Through" are artificial and weak, sounding more like crap songs from two decades ago instead of anything worth rehashing. The mixes contributed by Tommie Sunshine, Ectomorph and Adult are all refreshing interpretations of Bis songs, but they don't make the EP strong enough as a whole.
