Big Boi Signs with Epic Records for Planned Solo Album

As of late, Big Boi has been sharing music online via his "Mashup Mondays" series, but now the Atlanta rapper has reportedly inked a new record deal.

"I just signed a deal with Epic Records," the Outkast member told The Huffington Post. "So I'm back with L.A. Reid and Sylvia Rhone. Got a brand new situation. I signed the deal the day after the first Coachella date, that Saturday."

The Huffington Post noted that the rapper was "visibly excited about his new deal." He has frequently worked with Reid in the past; Outkast was signed to Reid's LaFace Records for many years, and the music exec was the boss of Def Jam Recordings for Big Boi's last couple of solo albums.

"That's my mentor," he said of Reid. "He understands my music. And one thing about L.A. Reid, there are no creative restraints. He trusts my ear and let's me make the music I want to make. We love being in business together. That's my big brother."

He confirmed that a new solo album is in the works, but added that he's "not gonna rush," since he's got a busy summer planned with Outkast's reunion dates. That being said, he promised, "You're definitely going to get some brand new Big Boi material. Two or three singles before the fall."
