Bette Midler Doesn't Like Marvel Movies Because They're "Unbearably Loud" and "Make Such a Racket"

She's also sick of songs about booties

As people become older, wiser and, in many cases, wealthier, they often stop censoring their opinions as much. This can sometimes result in celebrities putting their feet in their mouths, but it can also create wonderful nuggets of unfiltered wisdom. Depending on your opinion of Marvel movies, Bette Midler's latest quotes may place her firmly in the latter category.

In a new, hilariously candid interview with Variety, the legendary actor and singer said that she was hoping to play a grandma superhero one day. That said, it likely won't be a Marvel project. When asked for her opinion on the enormous cinematic franchise, Midler said she wasn't a fan.

"I don't really [enjoy watching Marvel movies], to tell you the truth," she said. "They're unbearably loud. They make such a racket. They don't really have any decent dialogue. And there's a lot of explosions. Now I don't know about you, but I don't really like explosions. I'm not really an action fan. I think it's something for young men. They like noise."

As might be expected, Midler does like the return of musicals via movies like Mary Poppins Returns.

"The songwriting is a different kind of songwriting too," she said of movie musicals versus average pop songs. "You don't have people singing lyrics that are full of love and longing. You have people writing about 'Bitch better get my money' or 'Get your booty out of my face' or 'Put your face in my booty,' whatever it is. It doesn't have the same beauty or grace that people go to the movies for."

We take it Milder wasn't a fan of the A Star Is Born song "Why Did You Do That?" either.

Much to Bette Midler's chagrin, Avengers: Endgame arrives on April 26.
