Beta Band's Steve Mason Teams Up with Richard X for Solo Album

Back in April, the Sunday Times reported that ex-Beta Band front-man Steve Mason had entered the studio with producer Richard X to begin work on his second full-length under the solo moniker King Biscuit Time. According to FACT Magazine, however, plans have now changed, albeit in name only.

Mason will now be releasing the project under his own name, with a release date slated for March. The album is called Boys Outside, and will apparently be more guitar-based than his previous electro-influenced material under the pseudonyms King Biscuit Time and Black Affair. A press release described Boys Outside as delivering "beautiful melodies and simple songs."

This move away from electronic music is a little surprising considering that the album was recorded with dance pop producer Richard X, who recently remixed the St. Etienne album Foxbase Alpha (renaming it Foxbase Beta). What's more, Boys Outside will be released via Black Melody, the label behind artists like Norwegian pop princess Annie.
