Best Coast's Sophomore LP to Be Produced by Jon Brion

Best Coast were initially associated with the lo-fi shitgaze trend, but last year's Crazy for You boasted a comparatively cleaned-up sound. For their sophomore album, it looks like songwriter Bethany Cosentino and her collaborators will be going even more hi-fi, as they have recruited studio genius Jon Brion as producer.

In a post on Facebook, the band wrote, "Beyond thrilled to announce that the incredibly talented Jon Brion will be producing the next Best Coast album. Recording begins in a few weeks in LA. More news on the way."

There's no more information than that, but this tidbit is more than enough to get us excited about the prospect of a new Best Coast album. Cosentino previously told Rolling Stone that her new album would be influenced by classic country artists like Loretta Lynn, but added, "It's not going to be a country record at all. I think a lot of people are getting scared when I say that."

Brion has previously lent his production talents to Kanye West, Of Montreal, members of Radiohead, and more. He's also a successful songwriter and composer in his own right.
