It's been a couple of years since actor Mark Ruffalo tapped Montreal indie rockers the Besnard Lakes to score his directorial debut, Sympathy for Delicious. Since then, the film, which centres on a wheelchair-bound DJ who discovers he has the power to heal, has made it to a few film festivals and received a wider release this past April, but outside of the cinema, the Besnard Lakes' tunes have rested in limbo. All that's about to change, courtesy of an official soundtrack heading our way.
While the bulk of the sountrack, which sees release June 7 on Lakeshore Records, features the Besnard Lakes' score, other artists that pop up on the set include the Kills, Do Make Say Think and the Bee Gees. And though the Lakes dominate, it turns out he didn't find the band right off the bat.
"Originally I had used Godspeed You! Black Emperor for the temp track, which led me to this little caché in Montreal of all these great musicians," he told The Playlist. "I ended up going to Besnard Lakes and asking them if they were interested in doing a live score for the movie."
It's arguable that this kicked off a cinematic side career for the Besnard Lakes, who have since gone on to score the Welcome to Pine Point project as well.
