Benoît Pioulard Returns with New Release, Gears Up for North American Tour
Published Oct 24, 2011Last year, Portland experimentalist Benoît Pioulard released what was arguably his strongest work yet with Lasted. Refusing to slow down, however, the long-running guitar looper will follow it up with another album next month.
The record is called Benoît Honoré Pioulard Plays Thelma, and will be released by Desire Path Recordings. The label describes the album's concept with this cryptic statement:
Thelma is best described as a place existing in between -- a lake within a haze. Against its concave mirror, the sonic territory of Benoît Honoré Pioulard -- documented across three acclaimed LPs by Chicago's Kranky label -- assumes the qualities of this place and all its ephemera, warm breezes, burbling shimmers and avian circlers. During his excursions to Thelma, Pioulard rested beneath the willow and wandered in the meadow, listening, absorbing, and recording. Glimpses are contained herein, where the solace and beauty of this mysterious place resonate in travellers who care to listen.
The record will start shipping on November 1, with a pre-order available here. Album track "Calder" can be streamed below.
As previously reported, Pioulard will also join A Winged Victory for the Sullen on their North American tour. All dates are available below.
