Beefs 2011: Thurston Moore Fires Back at Steve Albini, Insults His Pants Panties

BY Alex HudsonPublished Feb 9, 2011

As you may recall, last year Steve Albini lashed out at Sonic Youth, criticizing their decision to abandon the underground music scene and calling them a "mainstream band." Now, SY frontman Thurston Moore has fired back.

Speaking with Spanish newspaper El País [via TwentyFourBit], the legendary noise rocker said, "Steve has opinions based on a myopic point of view, which of course does not extend to the manufacturers of his pants."

UPDATE: Via letter to TwentyFourBit: "I said panties not pants. Lost in translation, Thurston Moore."

This comment feels a bit like those people who respond to an insult with a sarcastic "nice hair," but we still think it's pretty funny that Moore mentioned Albini's pants in an interview. We're not sure exactly who manufactures Albini's pants, but we did notice that he has a tendency to wear jeans with massive holes in the knees. Maybe this is what Moore is referring to?

Either way, we think this feud still has some comedy mileage, so hopefully Albini comes back with a retort of his own.

Sonic Youth recently released a soundtrack for the French film Simon Werner a Disparu.
