Basia Bulat, Woodpigeon, Analog Bell Service and the Witchies Hole up with Steve Albini for Banff Residency

Proving their merit as a world-class art school, the Banff Centre of the Arts launched the Indie Band Residency last year. The event, just like it sounds, sees indie bands from across Canada trudge through Banff, AB's crowds of Australian exchange students and Canadiana-hungry tourists to set up shop and record new material. Now, the school has announced the details for its second annual residency, and it looks like quite the shindig.

The bands represent four different provinces, with Vancouver's Analog Bell Service, Calgary's Woodpigeon, Montreal's the Witchies, and London, ON's Basia Bulat. And those artists are in for quite a treat, as CBC Radio 3 are reporting some pretty amazing producers attached to the project.

Namely, the residency features Grammy-winning Tom Waits producer Husky Höskulds, Hotel2Tango mastermind Howard Bilerman and, most notably, legendary Chicago rock guru Steve Albini.

The residency began on Sunday (October 18) and will go until October 31. If you're in or around the Banff area, you can check out two showcases with the bands in residency: one on October 25 at Will Bill's Legendary Saloon and another on October 31 at the Club at the Banff Centre.
